Student Day - ASM2010 The 6th annual student day conference was held at the Westin hotel in Ottawa in December of 2010 and was a great success in terms of attendance and discussions generated. Dr. Jennifer Gardy, blogger and co-host of the science show "Project-X", delivered the keynote address titled: "Why didn't anyone tell me that? Things I wish I had known as a fledgling scientist". This spirited talk discussed how the path towards a desired career can evolve with experience and that young scientists should not hesitate to branch out. Her presentation segued to the breakout groups which had the theme "careers after graduation" and were led by professionals in academic, public, private, and northern employment sectors. The organizing committee was also delighted to welcome Cynthia Pyc from BP Exploration Operating Company who presented the steps required for hydrocarbon exploration and production in the Arctic. The ASA would like to thank all the speakers, breakout session leaders, volunteers, and sponsors who made student day possible. We couldn't have done it without you! |
