The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) is a new initiative that aims to bring together early career scientists from around the world who share an interest in the Polar Regions. An interactive website has been established to serve as the main contact point for APECS members and provides a forum to share news, connect with other polar researchers, and find jobs and events that might be of interest. APECS is a project endorsed by the International Polar Year and the officially recognized early career association.
The Nasivvik Centre for Inuit Health and Changing Environments (Laval University) is a multidisciplinary research and training centre funded by the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples Health (IAPH), one of the 13 institutes of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Part of Nasivvik Centre’s mandate involves the support of research and training for graduate students registered in a masters or doctoral degree program in which a thesis is a major component of the degree requirements. The IPY Canadian Youth Steering Committee (CYSC) is responsible for raising awareness among Canadian high school students in the north on northern-related issues during the upcoming International Polar Year. Current CYSC initiatives include preparing northern content classroom lessons, bringing northern researchers into high school classrooms, and creating a snapshot of the Canadian North during the IPY through student photos and data collection. Graduate students interested in working with the CYSC are encouraged to visit the CYSC website.
