IRIS 1 Information (Western & Central Arctic)

The western and central ArcticNet Integrated Regional Impact Study (IRIS 1) encompasses the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR) and the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut. The objective of IRIS 1 is to examine the impacts of climate change on the physical and socio-economic environments of the ISR and Kitikmeot. Findings will be compiled into a regional impact assessment along with information and recommendations to assist policy and regional decision-makers in creating policies related to economic development, living conditions and resource development with respect to climate change.

IRIS 1 Steering Committee

The steering committee is the decision-making body with respect to the structure and content of the regional impact assessment.

Steering Committee members:

  • Ashley Gaden – IRIS 1 coordinator, University of Manitoba
  • Andrew Dunford – Policy and Environment Advisor, Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.
  • Jennifer Johnston – Researcher, Inuvialuit Regional Corporation
  • Norm Snow – Executive Director, Joint Secretariat, Inuvialuit Settlement Region

This committee is further supported by, and receives input from, representatives of the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) and the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) - Canada. Observers from ITK and ICC-Canada include:
