(Biography) Katie Blasco joined ArcticNet as Communications Officer in 2013 after three years as Administrative Manager for the CCGS Amundsen research program at Université Laval in Québec. Katie has a degree in Engineering Geophysics from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario and has studied French at Université Sainte-Anne, Nova Scotia and Université Laval. She has worked in the mining, oil & gas, and environmental sectors, as a private consultant, and in academia. With her various jobs in the marine and terrestrial geosciences, she has travelled throughout Canada and in Alaska, living in remote field camps on Baffin Island, and in the Northwest and Yukon Territories as well as spending time on research vessels in the American Beaufort Sea and throughout the Canadian Arctic. In recent years she has been working in science administration and communications, delving into the world of project budget management and accounting as well as focusing on her passion for writing and languages. She has had the opportunity to meet and work with various researchers, students, industry representatives, government officials, politicians, media and northern community members throughout her years in both science and administration. Her ongoing travels in remote corners of (to date) five of the seven continents, continue to inspire her sense of exploration and provide material for occasional freelance writing projects.
