ArcticNet - About us

Heidi Swanson
Assistant Professor
University of Waterloo

(Biography) My research interests lie at the interface of freshwater ecology, fish ecology, and contaminant bioaccumulation, and my research program reflects my interest in elucidating complex ecological interactions with chemical tracers. Many of my projects involve analyses of stable isotope ratios and/or otolith microchemistry. I aim to conduct research that is applicable to multiple stakeholders, and I place great value in developing positive collaborative relationships with other academics, government researchers, Aboriginal communities, and industry. Current research projects include: 1. Bioacummulation of mercury in lakes in the Deh Cho region, NT 2. Ecology of Arctic Grayling in barrenland systems 3. Life history and ecology of Arctic populations of Lake Trout 4. Effects of climate warming on food web structure of thermokarst lakes, Alaska
