(Biographie) I am interested in how the interaction between stress and reproduction affects organismal fitness. From an evolutionary perspective, I examine the role of phenotypic (inter-individual) variation in glucocorticoids (stress hormones) and their costs and benefits during reproduction. From an ecological and applied perspective, I examine how human-induced changes in the environment affect fitness through stress-mediated mechanisms. To accomplish these goals, I combine correlative measures and experimental manipulations in free-living temperate and Arctic avian field systems, and examine the consequences for reproduction, future fecundity and survival.
