(Biography) I am currently working toward my Ph.D. in Geography (Physical Oceanography) at University of Manitoba. My research interests lay in estuarine, coastal and shelf processes, freshwater-marine coupling, sediment transport, tidal mixing and zooplankton diel vertical migration. I started my Ph.D. studies with working on analysis of mooring data (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) and turbidity probes) collected in the Nelson River estuary by Manitoba Hydro. The acquired data has significant value for understanding the freshwater-ocean water tidal mixing and nutrient and sediment exchange in the estuary and their variability due to various factors such as river discharge, stratification, tidal amplitudes, etc. Preliminary results of the analysis were reported by me at Ocean Science Meeting 2014 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Currently I am working on preparing a peer-reviewed paper based on that analysis. In spring 2014 I participated in Young Sound, Daneborg, Greenland research campaign studying under ice fresh water layer, tidal mixing and spring bloom using ADCP, ice tethered profilers with optical sensors, and CTDs. As the result of these studies there were observed diel vertical migration of the zooplankton under ice in the fjord during polar night conditions and its disruption by polynya induced estuarine circulation. The results of these findings were presented as an oral presentation during ArcticNet, Arctic Change 2014 conference in Ottawa in 2014 and a paper being prepared for publication in a peer reviewed journal with me being the first author. I had the opportunity to participate in a project out of Belcher Islands on oceanographic monitoring of cumulative impacts of hydroelectric development on the marine ecosystems of Hudson Bay and local aboriginal communities. During last few years local residents at Belcher Island observed significant changes in sea ice habitats that could be possibly attributed to freshwater plumes caused by winter high hydroelectricity demands reaching Belcher Islands. Entrapments of marine mammals (Beluga, Killer Whales) became more frequent and extensive in recent years; as well thousands of eiders became entrapped during quick freeze-up which led to mass-mortality events in the studied area. I was leading oceanographic ice tethered mooring (CTDs and ADCPs) deployment program during 2014 and 2014 winter seasons. Besides oceanographic moorings an additional water sampling was performed including dissolved organic matter and oxygen isotope measurements (δ 18 O) together with salinity to distinguish between river runoff and sea ice melt. Preliminary results were presented as a poster at ArcticNet, Arctic Change 2014 conference in Ottawa in 2014. From 2007 to 2012 I worked as a Geological Field Technician for Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS) and participated in numerous field campaigns. I was in charge in upgrading existing passive radiometer system to tri-band ship based unit controlled by CompactRIO module, which was successfully tested in 2013 on board of CCGS Amundsen. My highest degree is Master of Science in Physics from University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee with a number of electrical engineering courses. Also I have a University diploma from the Faculty of Physics, M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University majoring in Geophysics. During my undergraduate studies I took part in three field trips organized by the Division of Geophysics: 1995 Black Sea Marine field trip (bottom sediments sampling for geothermal exploration) and 1990 and 1991 Kamchatka field trip (soil sampling and seismic exploration).
