ArcticNet - About us

(Biography) I am fascinated by life. Why is our planet so unique in supporting incredible biodiversity? What physical processes help to shape the evolution of life on this planet? The Arctic is undergoing rapid environmental change induced by a warming climate, and this change will have pronounced affects on the ecosystem at all levels. My research dives into the ocean to investigate the relatively undescribed microbial communties that are the major players in nutrient cycling and primary productivity for most of the year in these cold waters. Understanding how their diversity and distribution is affected by the physical environment is the goal of my research.
