ArcticNet - About us

Corinne Pomerleau
University of Manitoba

I am currently in the second year of my Ph.D. in oceanography at the Marine Science Institute of the Université du Québec à Rimouski. I have completed my B.Sc. in Marine biology in 2005 and my M.Sc. in Environment in 2008. I started to work in the Arctic in the summer 2005. I have completed five oceanographic missions since then, including two 6-weeks missions on board the CCGS Amundsen (2005-06), 4 weeks onboard the Louis S. St-Laurent (2007) 5 weeks onboard the CCGS Laurier (2008) and 3 weeks onboard the CCGS DesGroseilliers (2009). I spent 3 weeks near Arctic Bay in Admiralty Inlet in August 2009 to participate in a marine mammals tagging camp to deploy satellite-linked time-depth recorders on bowhead whales and to obtain skin biopsies. My Ph.D.?s focus on the determination of bowhead whales feeding grounds in the eastern Arctic and the comprehension of their habitat use in the context of their foraging ecology. My objectives are to identify their foraging areas, to determine regional and seasonal variations of feeding and the diet composition.
