ArcticNet - About us

(Biography) I am a Postdoctoral fellow at Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a BSc. degree in Biological Sciences, a MSc. degree in animal biology from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Brazil, and a PhD in biology from Memorial University. I have been studying octocorals since my undergraduate studies, starting with shallow-water tropical species for my BSc. and MSc. and focusing on deep-water boreal and Arctic species during my PhD. The main focus of my PhD thesis was on growth rates and patterns of deep-water octocorals, but I am also very interested in their distribution and taxonomy, and on overall benthic biodiversity. Besides my experience working on coral sclerochronology for my growth study, I have field experience with remotely operated vehicle (ROV) expeditions for benthic surveys, participating in the planning and execution of video transects, and on video analysis following video-data collection. For my ArcticNet postdoc I am working on Eastern Arctic demersal fish-coral-sponges relationships using trawl and ROV video data.
