Griet Neukermans

(Biography) Griet Neukermans is a postdoctoral researcher in the Takuvik Joint International Laboratory based at Université Laval in Québec city (Canada). She joined Takuvik in August 2014. Griet is an optical oceanographer with an expertise in atmospheric correction of satellite imagery, radiative transfer, in situ and laboratory measurement of optical and particle properties, and design of ocean color remote sensing algorithms. She investigates the impact of recent climate change on phytoplankton blooms in the Arctic Ocean from remote sensing under supervision of Marcel Babin. Griet received her BSc. and MSc. in Applied Mathematics and her MSc. in Oceans and Lakes from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Belgium. She obtained her Ph.D. in Physics from the Université du Littoral - Côte d?Opale in France. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego. She has received several national and international awards from the Oceanography Society, the European Commission, and Flanders Marine Institute for her MSc. and PhD. theses and presentations on international conferences. Griet is a member of the Oceanography Society (TOS), the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), the French Scientific Interest Group ? Ocean Color (GISCOOC), and Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). She actively enjoys the great outdoors from 30 meters below to >5000 meters above sea level and has a passion for sports, food, travel, and photography.
