Paul Overduin
Alfred-Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research

Dr. Pier Paul Overduin contributes experience and contacts gathered through research experience in in Alaska, the Canadian High Arctic, Siberia and on Spitsbergen to the proposed group. His research interests have broadened, from a focus on permafrost processes on land and on the continental shelves, to include the effects of changing climate on the arctic coastal zone. His research focus is currently in Siberia, where he leads a Russian-German research group combining modeling, field research and remote sensing expertise to assess the sensitivity of the coastal zone in the Kara and Laptev Seas to change. Current changes to sea ice, shelf ecosystems, and coastal dynamics affect and are being affected by submarine and terrestrial permafrost. Paul seeks to gain a process-based understanding of these interactions through the use of geophysical methods. He is a contributing author to the IPCC 5th Assessment Report and a member of the Arctic Resilience Report Assessment Integration Team, a current Arctic Council project. Since 2006, he has been co-leader of the Arctic Coastal Dynamics project of the International Arctic Science Committee and the Land-Oceans Interactions in the Coastal Zone.

Selected publications:

Overduin, P.
